Slow Web Manifesto — Against the AI Template Look
Most websites load in 0.2 seconds and feel empty. Here is a case for slow web — tactile, human, and imperfect by design.
Slow Web Manifesto
The fastest websites I’ve seen this year all look the same. Brutalist grids. Mono fonts. AI-generated hero images. Load in 0.2 seconds — feel like nothing.
The four rules of slow web
- Slow > Fast — 200ms more load is fine if it carries soul
- Tactile > Flat — grain, shadows, paper texture
- Human > AI — baseline that isn’t perfect, rotation at 1.5deg
- Space > Content — give things room to breathe
Why this converts
Visitors don’t buy fast. They buy memorable. A portfolio that feels like paper sells better than one that feels like a spreadsheet.
PaperHouse is built on this manifesto — bento grids, soft shadows, cream paper tones. Every page is slow on purpose.
