Works
Create and edit case studies in PaperHouse — cover images, galleries, categories, sizes, and prev/next navigation.
Works
Works are case studies. Each one is a markdown file in src/content/works/. The filename becomes the URL slug.
The rule
Filename = URL slug.
noma.md→/works/nomapaper-archive.md→/works/paper-archiveslow-store.md→/works/slow-store
Creating a work
Create a new file in src/content/works/. For example, src/content/works/aurora.md:
---
title: "Aurora — Visual Identity"
description: "A calming identity for a wellness studio, built around soft gradients and editorial type."
category: "Brand & Type"
year: "2026"
client: "Aurora Studio"
cover: "https://picsum.photos/seed/aurora/1200/800"
gallery:
featured: true
size: "large"

# Body content in markdown

Accessible at /works/aurora.
Frontmatter fields
Required
- title — displayed as the H1 and in cards
- description — used for SEO meta and preview text
- category — groups the work. Links to
/category/[slug]. - year — appears in the meta grid and cards
- client — the client name
- cover — the main image URL
Optional
- gallery — array of image URLs for the gallery section
- featured —
trueto highlight on the home page (defaultfalse) - size — grid layout size:
normal,wide, orlarge(defaultnormal)
Size variants
The size field controls how the card renders on the works grid:
- normal — 1 column, aspect 4:3
- wide — 2 columns, aspect 16:9
- large — 2 columns, aspect 4:5
Pick sizes to create visual rhythm on the grid. A large card next to two normal cards is a classic bento layout.
Gallery
Add a gallery of images below the body content:
gallery:
The gallery renders automatically if the array has at least one item.
Layout rules:
- 1 image → full width
- 2 images → side by side
- 3+ images → alternating full width and side by side
Body content
Below the frontmatter, write the case study in markdown:
# A soft identity where type holds air.
Noma is a studio that wanted an identity that feels like paper — slow, tactile, human. No icon logo, no monogram. Just letters doing the work.
## The brief
They wanted a system that could stretch across print, web, and packaging without losing its calm.
## The outcome
A serif-first identity with a single accent color. Everything else is space.
Markdown supports headings, bold, italic, links, lists, blockquotes, code, and images.
Custom image paths
For local images, drop them in public/:
public/
└── works/
└── aurora/
├── cover.jpg
├── gallery-1.jpg
└── gallery-2.jpg
Then reference them:
cover: "/works/aurora/cover.jpg"
gallery:
- "/works/aurora/gallery-1.jpg"
- "/works/aurora/gallery-2.jpg"
Featured works
Set featured: true to mark a work as featured. Featured works can be prioritized on the home page if you customize src/pages/index.astro.
By default, the home page shows the first 6 works in the collection.
Prev/next navigation
At the bottom of each work page, PaperHouse shows the previous and next work in the collection, sorted by year (newest first).
No configuration needed. Just add works, and navigation works automatically.
Grouping by category
Every work belongs to one category. Categories are linked automatically:
- Click a category on a work card →
/category/[slug] - The category page lists all works and blog posts with that category
SEO
Each work uses its description for meta and OG tags. This is why description is required — Google needs it.
To override the meta image, the cover is used by default.
Deleting a work
Delete the markdown file from src/content/works/. It disappears from:
- The works listing
- The home page (if it was in the first 6)
- Category listings
- Prev/next navigation on other works
